The Åheim plant produces olivine. The plant is located on the western coast of Norway in the southernmost part of the county of Møre og Romsdal. The operation was acquired in 2003.
Olivine is mined in an open pit. After the primary crusher near the pit, the ore is transported 4 km on a conveyor belt in a tunnel to the processing plant. The processing includes crushing, drying and screening. The big volume of olivine is as slag conditioner for the steel industry. Dried olivine sand is sold for refractories, foundry sand and abrasive. A new line of products includes olivine for environmental applications.
The Åheim plant has got a refractory plant that produces bricks and monolithics from olivine and purchased raw materials.
